hey so i just joined up as a DC and was wondering if anyone could tell me what A School is like? i know everyone is the navy is trained in damage control but i guess i get way more extensive training with it. from what i can gather we do alot of firefighting obviously but we also do alot of emergency repairs and stuff like that. basically its my job to make sure to ship doesnt sink and make sure all the emergency gear is working. but anywayss what is the A school like?

My best friend used to teach at the A school ..... that is a top of the line training facility.
Computer operater fire and flooding simulators ... you'll learn how to repair shipboard damage, emergency pipe repair, CBR (chemical, biological & radiological defense & decontamination), flight deck fire-fighting, hose-handling, dressout, plotting and emergency control ..... all kinds of stuff !!
You will be trained to do this stuff so well that you will soon be tasked with training the rest of the crew ... which is the basis of this job.
You are gonna enjoy it !!
Cheers,

thanks for the incite chief, seem actually kinda fun. But iim sure when im going threw the training i wont be saying that lol i like being in leadership roles so this jobs really seems to suit me.
soo how often where you deployed on a ship? cause i don't wanna be stuck on some shore installation for my whole navy career. Its just something i've been think about and cant seem to get an answer for..

It will be lots of fun ... you just need to keep your head straight and learn. They will really drill it into your head too because as a DCman ... it is your job to keep things real and focused when EVERYTHING is going completely wrong !!
You will be the person training your shipmates and instilling the confidence in them so that they will be able to handle whatever emergency that comes along. DC-training is a blast if it's done right ... especially at the live fire/flooding trainers.
DC-men have very few shore duty roles ... it is primarily an at-sea job. You are going to see alot of the world ... guaranteed !!

SWCC is a kick in the backside !!!
Do it while you are young .... while your body is able to keep up with all you will put it thru !! This is the closest to being a SEAL you can get without being one.
