As you can tell from the title I'm about to become a sailor. I'm Steve and I'll be 22 in June. The Navy is a family tradition (last 6 generations), so i figure its about my time! Taking the ASVAB on Monday and shooting to get into AECF, you know how us uber computer nerds are. Looking forward to e-meeting you all!

Welcome Steve and thanks for volunteering your service to protect all of us! That's great that youre carrying on the tradition and hope you are eager on your own behalf to get started. Guess I carried on a tradition of marrying a Navy man! Only my Mom and I, so we'll start it...but Grandad is retired Navy Captain so he's proud of us!!! Best of luck on the ASVAB...I'm sure you'll do great. Keep us posted!!!

Haha yea definitely! I was looking forward to leaving soon BUT sadly I decided to gauge my ears to an inch and i cant even get processed and swear in until they are sewn up. i knew that would bite me in the ass one day! >.<

I think itll be alright. Fairly certain getting them sewn up is cheap now (a few hundred). Parents are taking care of it.

hm we had a dude in bootcamp who you could tell had gauges previously. his ears kind of sagged at the bottom and he had a hole in each about the width of 3 paperclips side by side.
is that the after effect of having them sewn up?

after getting them sewn up they should look like you never had your ears pierced at all. i dont think its the navy that cares, its this anal doctor at the meps here.

My name is Cody. I am only 17 and located in the boring town Holland Ohio, right outside of Toledo. I am overly excited about being in the navy and to start the rest of my life. I look forward to reading what you guys have to say about anything and everything. Thanks.

awesome dude. I'm still planning on switching over from AV to AECF, so maybe I'll see you at A school. And if you've got college credits, bring your transcripts. That promotion is a sweet deal

Ive got 1 semester of credits. Dont think thats going to do much. You get E4 out of tech school anyways in AECF.

So .... you have to walk around with gaping holes in your ears ?? Gonna look kinda .... odd ... while in a very professional looking uniform, ain't it ??
Now tattoos .... THAT'S COOL !!! (Only saying it cause i'm covered :biggrin:).
It's all good .... the important thing is that you are in and liking what you do !!

Well, the holes have closed up quite a bit, and to be allowed in they have to be small enough so that a pencil eraser cant fit into them. Wont look too bad and should be considerably smaller by the time i leave for basic. And tattoos...ive got a good bit, id like to get suited one day. =D

Just please keep in mind ..... there will come a day when you will be in a position to need to "look the part" and visible tats while in a suit will be a detriment. Not everyone likes them as much as we do.
Speaking the voice of experience here .... we all face it at one point or another ;).

Wow! That's awesome! What a lot of changes you're having to go through, I know that would totally deter some people, so kudos to you for still having the determination. :) My hubby is 24 and leaves for Basic on the 16th of June. :) Do you know when you're headed out to Basic yet?

Awesome score and congrats on getting in. I know all the changes i.e.. the tattoo removal will be well worth it in the end. Most people would not even bother with it whatsoever... its awesome how driven you are. Then again with six generations of your family being in im sure you would go through more than most. Congrats again.

Still not sure when im leaving, cant go to MEPS until my ears are closed up enough. The tattoo removal has nothing to do with the Navy, parents asked me to get everything removed from the elbow down and they pay for it so i agreed.
