sure no sweat. Im in dep official ship date is in October. Going in under the BM rate hope to do well. Feelin somwhat under the gun though as I didnt feel like waiting until October to move on to the official Navy life. I put in a request to leave early (any time after May first, next month) and I dont think im ready. I would really like to succed so I asked my recruiter and he told me that I could just decline to leave early as it is a voluntary thing. Declining Just seems like a bad idea any thoughts

Declining is probably not the best option ... if you requested to leave early. That's one thing that you will learn about the military .... when you say you are ready ... you need to be ready !! Others will be counting on the fact that you mean what you say and can be counted on.

Obviously, yours is not a life or death thing and could be worked around ... but is this the precedence that you want to start your new career with ??

What makes you feel like you're not ready ??

Many people think that they need to be in top physical shape and need to know everything there is to know about the Navy BEFORE they go to bootcamp. This is absolutely unnecessary. You will learn all you need to know and will progress physically to the standard while you are in bootcamp .... that is the entire purpose of bootcamp in the first place !!

All you really need to succeed in Navy Bootcamp is a positive mental attitude !!! Anything over that is overkill !! It's when you head off to your tech school that you need to start sweating !!

Striving to be the best is great ... but not at the expense of causing you to delay.

By the way ... congrats on picking up Boatswains Mate !! That is the senior rate in the Navy !!! You will put in some really long, hard hours as a BM ... BUT, you will get far more leadership training than any other job in the Navy !!

The last BM that worked for me was a second class petty officer .... Mike Simms. I made him my divisional Leading Petty Officer ....I hand picked him for this position over 3 first classes with more seniority than him because he was a better leader than all three of them put together !! He is now up for Senior Chief ... and I have no doubt in my military mind that he will put on Master Chief one day.

Cheers,
PISTOL

mac i was a painter fer 2 years. Admittidly im not to fond of it and I know that painting is going to be pretty regular work as a bosun how many years/months will I be paintin? is being a bosun constant painting?

I was lookin to get shot at rather than paint thus IA hooyah. Naa just joking but it was somthing that I thought about volenteering for IA duty, that is not wanting to get shot I hear its painful.

Whats the scoop on the BM rate I like to work hard so im in it to win it. But any one know what my regular duties will be Including grinding and painting. If you would be so kind as to enlighten me I would be greatfull, very gratfull

Nice job on the BM rate! I hope you feel ready when the time comes around. Don't stress it too much, I've heard from so many people that boot camp is not as bad as it sounds!! :)
