Hey I'm Antoinette. I did try to get in the Marines for 2-3 months (Dec-Feb). I was underweight first even for their waverable weight so I had to prove i didnt have an eating disorder and their doctor saw I had scoliosis so I needed to get xrays. I have thorace scoliosis (20 degrees which was within standards since it can be up to 30 for that i believe) and lumbar scoliosis (21 degrees, 1 degree over their standards) I made enough weight to get a waiver the second time i was at meps and they ended up rejecting my waiver for the scoliosis even though it has never effected me before. I tried going to my doctor for a second opinion but he didnt help so I knew I had nothing to change the disqaulification.

So I thought bout what I wanted to do now (go back to college or try another branch). I had also wanted to serve in the Navy so now I am looking for a recruiter on that and going to see if i can get a waiver to enlist. Please don't think since Navy was second choice that I won't be as proud or put as much heart into it because I will be extremely proud and put all my heart into it. Oh and I am under minmium weight but my weight is enough for a waiver i think.

I was thinking trying for MA or corpsman or intel (not sure if i scored high enough for that) but I know MA and corpsman are filled very easily so I would consider other jobs. I want to enlist but I want to go to Naval Academy after a little bit of experiance but I know thats extremely hard to do. I would be happy just to be able to enlist in the Navy.

Not sure what else to say :)

Welcome Aboard and good luck with getting into the Navy.

:) And don't feel bad about the Navy being second choice, my dear. I speak on my behalf, anyways, that I won't chew you out for it! I'm proud of you for wanting to join the military either way and serve our country... braver than I am, that's for sure! lol.

Again, Good luck. It'll be tough.

I have the same issues that you do though. I'm 5'8'' and weigh 98 pounds (I think I"m back up to 102 though! I haven't checked, but I'm excited because I eat like a cow... all day!). I also have kyphosis and a really small degree of scoliosis (not enough to really count) but my kyphosis is pretty bad. I'm kind of a walk human problem (clumsy, bone problems and I get sick all the time!!) ... but I guess I really wouldn't have it any other way.

It's kind've like my brother. He has asthma and sight issues. He never wears glasses (when he did they were so thick it was kinda dorky). When he signed up for the army they asked him for his medical history and he didn't tell them he has asthma. He told his friend Shawn that if he wanted in the army to say nothing about his health because they look for ANYTHING to keep you out of there.

They still found out about Daniel having asthma... about 4 weeks into his training they were doing a thing out in the field... well there was something in the field that triggered him to have an attack. They had to fly him to a hospital. They ended up keeping him anyways... basically too late. Haha. He's been in the army for 5 years so far.

Not to be the wet towel here .... but let's please restrict the talk about lying about your medical history.

There are a few things that can be "glossed over" when it comes to passing an entrance physical because they will not affect anyone, but medical issues that have the potential to put your life or the lives of your shipmates at risk .... are not to be considered.

Not to mention .... lets consider how much of the tax payers money gets wasted by someone who covers up the fact that they have a serious medical issue only to have it discovered after they have been in.

HONOR, COURAGE AND COMMITMENT ............ not just an advertising catch phrase folks.

Cheers,

Yeah i agree dont lie about anything that will put your other shipmates in danger

They know what Daniel did, now.. he has medications for it and such to take care of it so they are aware that it is being handled.

I never said I approved of what he did, though, to tell you the honest truth. I don't like lying and when I find out that someone has lied to me or to anyone else I get pissy about it. Personally, I can't lie even if I wanted to (my right eye twitches noticeably and my palms start to get clammy).

So, I am sorry if I offended anyone by sharing my brother's story :(

no you did not offend me

No offense taken here ..... just wanted to make sure that everyone is perfectly clear that as a United States Sailor, you are expected to hold yourself to a higher level than as a civilian.

Not saying that all sailors are honorable, trustworthy and all-around good guys .... because we have our share of bad apples too.
Done a few questionable things in my day that I'm not proud of ... but that doesn't stop me from striving to do the right thing every day.

woah woah i never was going to lie. I was going to tell the recruiter. I meant maybei should get them to meet with me atleast. But I never said i would lie and i haven't held back anything from recruiters I have told them right away i am disqaulified. It was one degree over. It was difficult for me to get the waiver because I had just gotten one for my weight

Quick story...I am from a Navy family. Dad is ex navy...sister is a retired LCDR...and 2 brother in laws are retired as well....so I was ready to go as well! When I was 18 I left home and moved out of state to go live with one of my sisters...and on the drive out I got a speeding ticket. I sent it to a traffic ticket lawyer who basically put it on administrative hold for about 2 yrs. then it just got dismissed...but within that 2 yrs is when I went and started my paperwork to join. When talking to my recruiter...I was upfront and honsest about my ticket. He said..."when they ask you at MEPS if you have any tickets...say no." Well...I knew right then that was a mistake. I called my sister up (who was still active at that time) and she blew her top and wanted this recruiters' info. It is never good to lie about anything. You are taking an oath that you are being honest about everything.....I told my recruiter i would wait it out..and when it got dismissed I would come back. (By that time I had already moved back to TX..

Sometimes recruiters are in it for that notch on the belt. Unfortunately...that is all my husband was...as with most recruits coming in. I am probably luckier than most, in that I have many family members I can call to answer my questions...or get me the info I needed.

Perhaps you were being upfront and honest....but be wary of recruiters who push you to lie at MEPS. they are out there..and they will do that. (Not all...but some). You be sure and make the right choice. If it is meant to be...it will be.

;)

wait tickets matter? i actually got my first ticket the day before i was suppose to go to meps the 2nd time (i went a few days later). i told my recruiter at the time and he said it isnt a criminal charge so i'm fine and dont need a waiver. I didnt even know if i wanted to just pay it or go to court. i'm a lil confused...

Well....they did back then...so I dont know. But if they say something that sounds fishy...(like in my case....) then take notice and decide on your own what is right.

I doubt you will have any issues. though. Again...this was like 8 yrs ago for me...so who knows how things are handled now.

I know that if you have a ticket they aren't too happy about it... but if its something not criminal they won't disqualify you for it...

you dont get disqualified but they dont like it when u get tickets. and I also come from a military family both my stepbrothers are in the navy stationed in Norfolk and i had them looking out for me when i joined and my recruiter is down to earth guy and i'm not just a notch on the belt to him.

The deal with tickets is that you can't have any PENDING legal issues. You can have speeding tickets or parking tickets ets .... but they need to be taken care of.

I had a depper who got a ticket before he shipped out .... came in and let me know right away. I wasn't happy, but you know ... things happen. He and I agreed to make sure that it was taken care of (paid) within a week .... I made a copy of his ticket AND the payment receipt and sent it up to MEPs. Not another thing was said about it.

As I have said many times in my posts on here ..... there are some things that a recruiter may ask you to say / not say in order to get you in the Navy.

There is no doubt that lying is wrong .... and depending on what it is, you will need to decide where your boundaries are. Many recruiters know that the requirements to get a normal human being in the military can be unreasonable and could prevent a really good person from doing what they really want to do in life. ..... and they propose a little white lie or tell you not to open your mouth about something in order to make this happen for you.

What most people don't realize is that this recruiter who is often looked at as a shyster ... may actually be risking his own career because he sees something in you and wants to help you out.

I have been in that situation many times .... and have covered a few things myself. For the people who I put in that made the most of the opportunity ... I would do it again !!

cheers,
PISTOL

Oh the ticket is paid I made sure to get it done with. I can't find a navy recruiter who is going to work with me because of the difficult time they are having with waivers i guess but an army recruiter did call me and is willing to see if he can help me.
