Hi everyone!

Long time reader first time poster here.

My names Roon and im 22 years old from Pennsylvania. I decided to go visit my local recruiter today and aside from my weight I qualify! So I just need to lose about 38 pounds to qualify, ( i'm 224 need to hit at least 186 to qualify).

My main issue though is im worried I may not be able to get in under the job I want. I have my heart set on enlisting as a Corpsman and hopefully helping out the Marines. My recruiter said that jobs cant be guranteed but is it possible if that job isnt available at time of enlistment that I can wait and sign when it is?
I'm giving up a well paying job to fullfill this dream so I don't want to go in as a computer tech or something else. I also understand that is the needs of the Navy though.

Thanks for everyones consideration and I hope to become more active with you all! :cheesy:

Roon.....welcome to the Cafe. Best of luck with the weight loss, you can do it!

We told both of our children that if they could not get the job that they wanted to tell them thank you but no thank you.....you have that choice!

Thank you Kristie!

I'm cutting the sodas completley out of my diet, I think thats my biggest weakness haha!

Thank you for the reassurance, I wasn't sure if you could refuse..maybe my steps are backwards, do you sign the contract before or after the DEP program? I'm glad I have the choice!

Thanks again!

Hey there, I was overweight too but passed the tape (19 percent body fat). I don't drink sodas anymore, and drink about 6 water bottles a day. Run, run and run and do lots of cardio.

My biggest weakness was eating late at night. I still do, but not nearly as bad... :)

I too was told that I have to loose wait. I have lost nearly 20 pounds already but I still have a few to go. If u cant get the job that u want it would really suck having work so hard to loose the weight to work doing something u hate for 4 years. If being a sailor is a real dream for u I would first really consider what it is that u are getting into if u are not allow to do the job u want.

You can actually cross-rate after two years if you don't like your job. I'm thinking of doing that eventually.

Wow awesome more replies!

Thanks for all the helpful info. As far as the job I get in the Navy i'm willing to wait for an opening, im a part time EMT and looking for Corpsman, I'm already stuck in a full time job I hate..not going to go into another. ;)

I found a pretty good routine I can start doing that would be strength training M-W-F and cardio everyday, I just need to get the drive and discipline to start it and keep at it. Sodas have been cut out of my diet completley but the foods i'm still working on.

N@vychick, awesome to hear your losing those pounds, keep at it! In this together! haha.

hey cutting out the sodas is good....Corpsman is a hard job to get but its a lot harder for females...Thats because everyone wants a corpsman job... but I got it and im exited....i'm taking a college course right now to be an EMT...My recruiter had me pick out about 5 jobs that really interested me but corpsman was #1 on my list...but my stepbrother told me if they didnt offer me a job i wanted not to take it....so I give you the same advice if you really want corpsman tell them thats the job you want and your not joining unless you get it and they will find a way to get you in as a corpsman...but if they dont offer you corpsman dont settle for less....
