God I miss that !!! I sleep sooooooo good in weather like that .... just rocks me to la-la land !!

The only thing better than going through rough weather on a carrier .... is doing it on a ship that is only 213feet long !! Blue water makes it all the way to the bridge on that small of the boat !! I have wiped foot prints off of the bulkheads ... talk about rolling YEE-HAW !!!

Cheers,
PISTOL

We all get a little green around the gills at one time or another... Some worse than others. I actually never got sea-sick per se, but the first day out I was always tired and ready to take a nap all day.

Being up on the bridge will get ya though ...

I was green the first 2 or 3 days out. and I didn't feel very good. but I got my sea legs. the weather coming out of/going into the PI was always ruff. there are those that have chronic sea sickness. we had a radarman that was. so bad he was xfered back to shore.

thank god for the fleet weather center. there were many times going from CONUS to the fareast and back, we had to stop and wait for typhoons to pass by. or go to flank speed and out run them. at least twice I remember they scrambled the fleet out of Subic because of typhoons.
........im not sure on this but i think it was bull Halsey that invented FWC after the WW2. twice his fleet was severly damaged by typhoons.

well, my CO on the Kitty Hawk, Captain Todd Zecchin, decided to go through the typhoon, and then turn around and go back through it! I think we had a few million dollars worth of damage to the ship! we lost a Cat-walk, and the forecastle was pretty bad, there were sagging bulkheads and flooding! it was still fun though....

great way to be relieved of command. endangering a ship and crew is a court martial offense..........

I assume no one was hurt???? the CO of the san fran was relieved for striking a mountain. and the other guy for surfacing with a ship right above him. which sank with fatalities.

alot of ppl got fired for the san fran, and a few work at NAVSUBSCOL as well. One guy died as well. the san fran was a really bad misfortune
