hi, im new here...but anywho, i just got back from my the recruiting command here in mobile, alabama. i was thinking about joining the reserve, but i need some more info about the photographer's mate job. my recruiter called it the JO? i have a keen interest in photography, and it is also my major in college. having experience in he navy(as well as having them pay for the rest of my stay in college) i believe would be very beneficial. who knows, i may go active if i do well. i just really dont know anything about the field, or whether or not i can even do that in the reserves. my recruiter was too focused on trying to get me to go active asap to tell me much about it...do you guys or gals think you could fill me in on it? id prefer to talk to someone that is in the field, but even if you just know a person or know a little bit about it than my recruiter could tell me, please feel free to respond!!! thanks.

well, the rate now has merged and is MC now. Mass Communications, like journelism and photography, photo shop, things like that. If you want, go reserve! I have a friend who is reserve and she seems to like it. She does her once a month thing and works as a waitress the rest of the time. Not sure if she's in school, but you'd have the option, I'm sure. Do what YOU want, the recruiter's honestly just trying to do his job in getting active duty personnel, but if that's not what you want, DON'T DO IT! YOU have to be happy. And hey, if you do change your mind, you can always go active. We need all the help we can get!

ahh, finaly a question i'm an expert at!

i'm an MC now, i just too the third class test this morning. MC is a merged rating that was formerly JO, PH, LI, and DM. we write stories, shoot photos, deal with press, print newspapers, websites, etc. there is a ton of stuff we do. it is a blast.
