View Full Version : What to Wear?

I know this is such a cliche question to ask, but I don't know what to wear to my boyfriend's graduation.
It's on September 5th (so only 10 days left - thank God!)

I was originally going to wear a modest black dress with heels, but I was told that the drill hall is quite a walk from the check-in point, so heels wouldn't be sensible. (Is that true?)

Today I decided to wear a nice collared button-up shirt with white shorts and...flip flops. The flip flops go very nicely with the outfit, but I'm not sure if it would be disrespectful to wear them to his graduation. I know they would be comfortable to walk in, but I also want to look nice for him.

I'm only bringing a wristlet (a very small purse) that can barely fit my cellphone, keys, chapstick, ID, and tissues, so I can't carry flip flops and wear heels.

Can anyone offer me a solution or tell me if it's okay to wear flip flops?

I say wear the dress with flats.... He hasn't seen you in forever - and he probably doesn't want you wearing shorts around hundreds of guys that haven't seen a non sailor woman in 8 weeks......
Honey your young --- the walk isn't bad. Whatever shoes that you can run or walk up and down bleacher seats is what you wear.... without falling flat on your face.. LOL..... Have a great time.

Wear something that is comfortable - trust me, he won't care what you have on and as far as dress code - I've seen it all there. People get very dressed up - suits and ties, dresses/heels to jeans and a t-shirt. Why don't you wear the white shirt with a nice pair of jeans and sandels and remember a camera w/extra batteries/film. Hope this helps.

Hahah, thanks everyone. The heels for the black dress are really unmanageable. There is no way I can walk farther than a block and running is totally out of question. Since there's no dress code, I think I'll go with the flip flops. I really like the outfit I'm planning to wear, and I'm curling my hair and putting it up, which he likes.

9 more days! I can't wait!

AHH. I wish I had a significant other to go to my graduation... I would tell her to get all dolled up and sexy looking..then use my liberty to my advantage..:angel::angel:

SUCH A STEROTYPICAL MALE RESPONCE!!

I personally would dress for comfort…. My normal daily attire consists of gym shorts, a t-shirt, and usually no shoes. If I am required to wear shoes, I’ll wear sandals.

The only graduation I've gone to was for the Marine Corps. But I'd definitely wear something cute and comfortable! Especially if he's going to have the liberty to escort you around for the afternoon. Just remember that he'll be in uniform all day so it'd be nice to look nice next to him! [Although it's completely awe-shocking. I didn't think I could compare to my ex when I saw him in his Charlies, but goodness was I proud!!!!!!]

I think I'll stick with the button up shirt and flip flops :P

And he's grad-and-go so no liberty to take advantage of :( I want to look especially nice, since the next time I see him will be Christmas!

Stick with the comfy stuff and like KYmom said you can go to the airport and spend time with him before he leaves.....

I went to my brother's graduation in a black skirt, white shirt and black heels. I was younger then, lol. I plan on buying a new dress for Matt's graduation because I want to look real good for him. :) I'm just not sure what I will look for... I want really cute flat slip-ons :) I know where to look for those.

How long is the graduation? I want to be able to sit comfy in a dress for a long amount of time... haha.

Oh and pilotofatx? :P Such a great idea. If only Matt and I were going to be alone for liberty weekend.
